The SLYB in town recreational program is for boys and girls in grades 1-8
Grades 1 and 2 are instructional and meet once per week on Saturdays. Grades 3 through 8 involve a weekly practice and a weekly game. Each division will have a different set of game rules designed specifically for that age group.
- Grades 1 & 2 are instructional
This is a recreational league for boys and girls in 1st & 2nd grade and meet once per week for 8 weeks (scheduled around holidays). Starting on Saturday mornings in December. There are boy and girl sessions. Instructional basketball will have no formal games rather emphasizes skill development, teaching the rules of the game, and having fun. The program consists of one hour and fifteen minute sessions per week. Each player will be receiving a t-shirt and basketball.
- Grades 3/4, 5/6, & 7/8*
All registrants will be guaranteed a spot on a team and teams will have an “equal playing” time rule. Rec practices (1 per week) & games (1 per week) begin December and concludes with a March Madness tournament in march. Jersey's are provided. Practice and games schedules will be announced when teams and coaches are allocated. Each division will have a different set of game rules designed specifically for that age group.
It is recommended but not required that players in our Travel program also play in our Rec program
*Due to low enrollment for 7/8th grade girls rec in recent years, we will not be offering a division for this age group. Those interested in playing are invited to participate in the Halifax rec league. Email [email protected] for more information.
The Recreational program is comprised of the following divisions:
- Grades 1/2 (Instructional, no formal games). Cost: $75
- Grades 3/4. Cost: $100
- Grades 5/6. Cost: $100
- Grades 7/8. Cost: $100
**Family discounts are available for 3 or more siblings participating

- November (mid): Rec Registration closes
- November (end): Rec Coaches Meeting & Team selection
- Dec (early): Rec games/practices and Instructional sessions begin
- March: Regular season ends and playoffs start
